Facility Access<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">User Eligibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All users must complete required\u00a0<strong>UVM EHS laboratory safety training<\/strong>\u00a0prior to working in ALCA.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Additional instrument-specific training may be required depending on the instrumentation being used.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Users<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Independent use is only permitted once users demonstrate competency in proper instrument operation and facility procedures.Step layout:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All new users must contact ALCA staff and receive approval before using facility instrumentation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training must be completed before independent instrument access is granted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research Group Approval<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and other supervised users must provide the name of their\u00a0<strong>Principal Investigator (PI)<\/strong>\u00a0or supervising faculty member.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PI approval may be required prior to training or instrument access.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-uvmgreen-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-710c2c10df28c6d5e11322e48e660dc5\">Scheduling &amp; Facility Usage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reservations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Users are responsible for reserving sufficient time for setup, sample analysis, and cleanup.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Instrument reservations must be made in advance through\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uvm.ilab.agilent.com\/service_center\/show_external\/6442?name=laboratory-for-chemical-analysis\">iLabs<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cancellations &amp; Changes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reservation changes or cancellations should be made\u00a0<strong>at least 12 hours in advance<\/strong>\u00a0whenever possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Late cancellations or missed reservations may result in charges at the discretion of the facility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Late Arrivals<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Users arriving significantly late for scheduled reservations may lose access to that reserved time and may be required to reschedule.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Charges may still apply for reserved instrument time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Billing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Certain consumables, specialty reagents, columns, standards, or requested supplies may be billed separately.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Instrument usage, analytical services, staff-assisted work, and method development are billed according to current ALCA rates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-uvmgreen-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a57ef7f559f3f9b6df0812fb0f767dc3\">Sample Submission &amp; Analytical Services<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sample Submission<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sample submissions for analytical services should be made through\u00a0iLabs\u00a0using the appropriate virtual submission forms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PDF submission forms may be provided for reference, but iLabs remains the preferred official submission pathway.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sample Compatibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Users are responsible for ensuring submitted samples are compatible with requested instrumentation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sample preparation requirements vary by instrument and should be reviewed prior to submission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method Development<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Novel, complex, or non-standard analyses may require consultation and method development charges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-uvmgreen-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c70b1d57f45f5222d931147c8fa8c245\">Facility Conduct &amp; Instrument Care<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">User Responsibilities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Users are expected to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Follow all posted facility procedures and staff instructions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Operate instruments only within approved training scope<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Report instrument problems or irregular performance immediately<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Handle laboratory equipment and consumables responsibly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cleanup<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Users must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Leave instrumentation in ready-to-use condition for the next user<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove all samples and personal materials after use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clean instrument work areas, benches, and accessories after completion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Damage \/ Misuse<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Damage resulting from improper use, unauthorized operation, or failure to follow procedures may result in suspension of access and\/or financial responsibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-uvmgreen-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-006a3352e1517a5856c528d3b55cebeb\">Safety Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Required PPE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Users must wear appropriate laboratory PPE, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Safety glasses or goggles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Closed-toe shoes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Long pants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Closed-toe shoes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chemical Handling<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All chemicals must be handled according to University of Vermont safety policies and SDS guidance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hazardous solvents must be used in designated fume hoods when required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Users are responsible for proper chemical labeling, handling, and disposal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Incident Reporting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Any spills, accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions must be reported immediately to ALCA staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-uvmgreen-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-61d20ecab2a7cab139fcc2902d14a704\">Policy Enforcement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Failure to comply with ALCA policies may result in suspension of instrument access, additional charges, retraining requirements, or revocation of facility privileges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-uvmgreen-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-24d6f21cc624cbf6781546ac36dcba6c\">Questions?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Questions regarding facility access, training, billing, scheduling, or safety should be directed to ALCA staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/site.uvm.edu\/alca\/contact\/\">Contact ALCA<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>General Policy Statement To ensure safe, efficient, and equitable use of the&nbsp;Agilent Laboratory for Chemical Analysis (ALCA), all users must comply with University of Vermont laboratory safety requirements and the facility-specific policies outlined below.
