{"id":35,"date":"2025-02-10T18:51:43","date_gmt":"2025-02-10T18:51:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.uvm.edu\/biologicalscience\/?page_id=35"},"modified":"2026-06-15T17:21:55","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T17:21:55","slug":"reu-programs-and-paid-internships","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/site.uvm.edu\/biologicalscience\/reu-programs-and-paid-internships\/","title":{"rendered":"REU Programs and Paid Internships"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/site.uvm.edu\/biologicalscience\/wp-admin\/edit.php?post_type=page\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are established programs that provide paid opportunities to conduct biologically-related research, and typically involve an individual research project. &nbsp;They are listed in chronological order by posting date. &nbsp;You can also browse the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/crssprgm\/reu\/reu_search.jsp\">National Science Foundation REU Programs<\/a>&nbsp;by topic and location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UVM students can earn credits for qualifying internship experiences, whether during the academic year or in Summer. &nbsp;These are organized through a student&#8217;s college or department:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/cas\/internships-overview\">College of Arts &amp; Sciences (CAS)<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/cals\/internships-cals\">College of Agriculture &amp; Life Sciences (CALS)<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/rsenr\/rsenr_internship_program\">Rubenstein School for the Environment &amp; Natural Resources (RSENR)<\/a>.&nbsp; CAS\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/go.uvm.edu\/internfund\">Summer Internship Scholarship Program<\/a>&nbsp;can provide students with up to $3,000 to help cover their food, rent, transportation, and\/or other living expenses while doing an internship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summer 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-atomic-blocks-ab-accordion ab-block-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"ab-accordion-title\">6\/2 &#8211; Field Botany Internship with Native Plant Trust, mid-July to mid-October &#8211; MA<\/summary><div class=\"ab-accordion-text\">\n<p>This internship offers in-depth experience and a range of hands-on learning opportunities in the area of field botany. The intern works closely with Conservation Department staff and other professional field botanists, supporting surveys of rare plants, rare habitats, and invasive species by recording data in the field, performing data quality checks, using GIS applications, assisting with report preparation, and other research support tasks as required. The intern will spend a minimum of five (5) weeks in the field, during which the intern will stay at campgrounds at no cost. Low-cost housing is also available near our headquarters office during the internship. Training is provided, and interns may also enroll in Native Plant Trust\u2019s educational programs and courses free of charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The position is non-exempt, hourly, full-time, based at our headquarters in Wayland, MA, and field locations in open coastal habitats of Massachusetts. Compensation is $15.00\/hour for 40 hours\/week for 14 weeks (max wages $8,400). The work schedule is 9am &#8211; 5pm, Monday &#8211; Friday, with early morning and evening hours and occasional weekend hours. The Developers Academy builds the next generation of science and technology leaders through an immersive, experiential model applying NASA Earth observations to real-world challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the fall 2026 term, EarthRISE Developers Academy will provide in-person opportunities at Ames Research Center (Moffett Field, CA), Goddard Space Flight Center (Greenbelt, MD), Jet Propulsion Laboratory (Pasadena, CA), Langley Research Center (Hampton, VA), and Marshall Space Flight Center (Huntsville, AL). Additionally, a limited number of projects are available for virtual participation. Through collaborative projects, professional development, and state, local, tribal, territorial, and private partnerships, the Academy equips participants with the skills to accelerate innovation and bridge Earth science with the future of space exploration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Developers Academy is an interdisciplinary activity, where we accept participants with experience in a variety of fields, as well as from different phases of their career. Applicants with demonstrated skills in Earth and\/or environmental sciences, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and\/or computer science are encouraged&nbsp;to apply.&nbsp;Participants will work together on teams, guided by NASA science advisors and in partnership with decision-makers, to expand their skills to use NASA science data to address environmental concerns related to disaster management, agriculture, ecological conservation, and water resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. EarthRISE Developers Academy offers hourly, paid positions with rates that are determined by education level and working location.
