Below is a collection of recent stories.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The question, So What Is Veganic Farming, Anyway? is the title of this article from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlantabusinessjournal.com\/so-what-is-veganic-farming-anyway\/\">Atlanta Business<\/a> with an interview of Alisha Utter, an alum from UVM Plant and Soil Science&#8217;s farmer training program.<\/p>\n<p>The topic of an article in <a href=\"https:\/\/countryfolks.com\/cabot-farm-named-dairy-farm-of-the-year\/\">Country Folks<\/a> is about UVM Extension and the VT Dairy Industry Association naming Molly Brook Farm in Cabot as Dairy Farm of the Year.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 20px\">\n<li>Cabot farm recognized as Vermont Top Dairy Farm of the Year by UVM &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcax.com\/2022\/08\/17\/cabot-farm-recognized-vermont-top-dairy-farm-year-by-uvm\/\">WCAX<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Cabot Farm Named Dairy Farm of the Year &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/hardwickgazette.com\/2022\/08\/17\/cabot-farm-named-dairy-farm-of-the-year\/\">Hardwick Gazette<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>UVM Extension Northwest Crops &amp; Soils Grazing Specialist Sarah Flack presented her research during the Crops &amp; Soils recent dairy webinar series, as part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/countryfolks.com\/cost-of-production-on-organic-dairies-update\/\">Country Folks<\/a> article updating production costs on organic dairy farms.<\/p>\n<p>UVM Greenhouse Manager Derek Allen was interviewed for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenhousegrower.com\/production\/a-collaborative-approach-to-greenhouse-maintenance\/\">Greenhouse Grower<\/a> about their successful maintenance planning for the 12,000 square feet of controlled greenhouse space on campus for plant-related research and education activities.<\/p>\n<p>Microbiology and Molecular Genetics Assistant Professor Emily Bruce is quoted in this article from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d41586-022-02026-x\">Nature<\/a> reporting how long people are infectious after contracting COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmprogress.com\/crops\/can-saffron-fit-your-farm\">Farm Progress<\/a> reported on Vermont becoming a hot spot for saffron growing and research thanks to the work of Margaret Skinner and Arash Ghalehgolabbehbahani.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Lewins is interviewed in this story from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcax.com\/2022\/07\/28\/monarch-migration-threat-world-traveler\/\">WCAX<\/a> on the importance of the monarch butterfly, which has been named an endangered species.<\/p>\n<p>Andy Chamberlin is quoted in an article from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parentherald.com\/articles\/107414\/20220702\/okay-use-washing-machine-clean-vegetables.htm\">Parent Herald<\/a> on the safety of using a washing machine to clean vegetables.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2022\/08\/02\/lifestyle\/maine-farmer-scientist-collaborate-creating-plan-that-adapts-climate-change\/\">Boston Globe<\/a> featured how a farm in Massachusetts is adapting to climate change through a Climate Adaptation Fellowship, and notes that Joshua Faulkner and UVM Extension advised on the project.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samessenger.com\/news\/what-4-h-kids-will-be-up-to-at-franklin-county-field-days-in-2022\/article_f6711c6c-0ea8-11ed-b4e4-13f9b1a82821.html\">St. Albans Daily Messenger<\/a> published a preview of what 4-H kids will be up to at Franklin County Field Days.<\/p>\n<p>UVM Extension 4-H and the Green Mountain Moovers 4-H Club of Morrisville were highlighted in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vtcng.com\/news_and_citizen\/news\/local_news\/johnson-dairy-show-attracts-20-4-h-members\/article_c9660720-1f09-11ed-ba10-6331438c0844.html\">News &amp; Citizen<\/a> about their participation in the Johnson dairy show.<\/p>\n<p>A farm tour at the Paul-Lin Dairy in East Fairfield was part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samessenger.com\/things_to_do\/food\/gallery-east-fairfields-paul-lin-dairy-and-paisley-scoops-gelato-give-open-farm-week-tour\/article_7ba1766e-1cd4-11ed-b6cb-e38167654a4a.html\">Saint Albans Messenger<\/a> article about Open Farm Week and UVM Extension&#8217;s role in it.<\/p>\n<p>Lisa Jensen of the Consumer Assistance Program is quoted in a <a href=\"https:\/\/mountaintimes.info\/scams-targeting-seniors-are-on-the-rise\/\">Mountain Times<\/a> article about a rise in scams targeting seniors.<\/p>\n<p>Animal and Veterinary Sciences Associate Professor Sabrina Greenwood is quoted in an article from <a href=\"https:\/\/todayuknews.com\/tech\/nugget-the-cow-seaweed-munching-bovine-chews-on-solution-to-methane-problem\/\">UKToday News<\/a> about her research on feeding seaweed to dairy cows.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dairybusiness.com\/national-mastitis-council-names-its-2023-scholars\/\">Dairy Business<\/a> reported on Caitlin Jeffrey, Animal and Veterinary Sciences graduate student, being named as one of four 2023 National Mastitis Council (NMC) Scholars.
