On September 12 and 14, Nehr&#8217;s students performed a waste audit at the Davis Center, an event organized by Corey Berman in the Office of Sustainability.<!--more--><br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1971\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/site.uvm.edu\/cals-news\/files\/2022\/09\/student-waste-audit2.jpg?resize=275%2C378\" alt=\"A female student stands behind a table that is draped with a sign stating, UVM Recycling and Zero Waste.\" width=\"275\" height=\"378\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the waste audit was to quantify the amount of food waste and recyclables that were placed into the trash destined for the landfill.<\/p>\n<p>These contaminants were about 35 percent of the material placed in trash bins, which contributes to unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During UVM&#8217;s Fall 2022 semester, Plant and Soil Science Professor Deb Neher taught PSS 154, Compost Ecology and Management.
