The event was a collaboration between the VVBGA and UVM Extension, and it was attended by 198 people.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The day-long educational program featured nine farmers giving presentations about:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 20px\">\n<li>Developing an on-farm market.<\/li>\n<li>Stress management.<\/li>\n<li>New product development and marketing.<\/li>\n<li>Creating a healthy workplace.<\/li>\n<li>Starting an urban farm.<\/li>\n<li>Four decades of farming.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2534\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/site.uvm.edu\/cals-news\/files\/2023\/02\/vt-veg-berry-mtg-attendees.jpg?resize=525%2C275\" alt=\"2023 Vermont Vegetable and Berry Growers attendees sitting around tables in a conference room listening to a presenter.\" width=\"525\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/site.uvm.edu\/cals-news\/files\/2023\/02\/vt-veg-berry-mtg-attendees.jpg?w=1200&amp;ssl=1 1200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/site.uvm.edu\/cals-news\/files\/2023\/02\/vt-veg-berry-mtg-attendees.jpg?resize=768%2C402&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/site.uvm.edu\/cals-news\/files\/2023\/02\/vt-veg-berry-mtg-attendees.jpg?w=1050 1050w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Several UVM Extension faculty and staff also gave presentations including:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 20px\">\n<li>Vegetable and Berry Pest Updates by Ann Hazelrigg.<\/li>\n<li>Pollinators on Produce Farms by Laura Johnson.<\/li>\n<li>Monitoring and Managing Irrigation Water by Becky Maden and Joshua Faulkner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A trade show with 30 exhibitors included several Extension people and programs:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 20px\">\n<li>Chris Callahan and Andy Chamberlin representing agricultural engineering.<\/li>\n<li>Hans Estrin with Community Accreditation for Produce Safety.<\/li>\n<li>Dana Rupert, Zac Smith and Betsy Miller of the Extension Agriculture Business Management team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A follow-up on-line evaluation had 71 respondents, of which 87 percent said that by attending the meeting they learned something they would use in their work. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/UVM-Extension-Cultivating-Healthy-Communities\/horticulture\/VVBGA\/AnnualMtg23\/AnnualMeeting2023Slides.pdf\">Click here for the slide presentations<\/a> from the meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2023 annual meeting of the Vermont Vegetable and Berry Growers Association (VVBGA) was held on January 24 at the Capital Plaza in Montpelier.
