Towns can use the program to apply for funding from the forest service to help buy the land, with the Forest Service paying up to 50%, for maximum of $600,000. The application has different requirements for towns, such as the type of land that can be acquired, the type of entity that can buy the land, providing budget proposals, etc. The primary focus is buying land, as opposed to other management projects like building trails within existing land.<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons\">\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/managing-land\/private-land\/community-forest\/program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Website<\/a><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Mad River Valley Conservation and Recreation Visioning<\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Part of the Mad River Valley Recreation district. The MRVRD is a group helping to \u201cfacilitate, enhance, and create recreation opportunities\u201d in the Mad River Valley. The Conservation and Recreation Visioning program is for organizations hoping to use their land for recreational spaces. They include a group of organizations dedication to outdoor recreation. They also have a grant program for groups hoping to develop recreational spaces.\u00a0The program provides specifically for recreational projects.<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons\">\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mrvrd.org\/about-crv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Website<\/a><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Leahy Institute for Rural Partnerships<\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">A program run at the University of Vermont that provides resources including access to faculty, research, technical expertise, students, and more. They can also help provide funding for some projects in certain focus areas, including creating healthy ecosystems.<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons\">\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-center wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/ruralpartnerships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Website<\/a><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis: 50%\">\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Vermont Housing and Conservation Board Funding resource<\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">This resource is provided by the VHCB, which gives funds for conservation of land, and preservation and restoration of historic properties. They do this for various types of land use, including agriculture, forests, outdoor recreation, and others. Their area of focus for these funds are primarily on purchasing conservation easements on privately owned working forests, and funding land acquisitions for towns looking to make a town forest. Grants ranging from $250-$600. Applications due April 4th 2025.<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons\">\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-center wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/vtconservation.com\/tiny-grants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Website<\/a><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\r\n<h2>The USDA Forest Service\u2019s Community Forest and Open Space Conservation program<\/h2>\r\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">This program provides up to $600,000 in federal funds for land acquisition for Community Forest projects (50\/50 match). Municipalities or NGOs enter into the grant with Forest Service and they acquire the land.
