Research Interests<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lizzy is primarily interested in researching how to best implement weight-inclusive nutrition education from pre-K to post-secondary schooling and athletics. She is also passionate about examining diet culture, and how to help people of all ages reject diet culture messaging and form peaceful relationships with food and their bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lizzy enjoys swimming and running as her main activity outlets. She is a passionate consumer of pop culture and loves listening to many different musical styles and having dance parties in her living room. Lizzy lives with her husband, Kyle, and yellow lab Carbo in Vermont.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research Interests<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Bernice is the Adam and Abigail Burack Green and Gold Associate Professor in the Department of Education in the College of Education and Social Services (CESS) at the University of Vermont (UVM), with a secondary appointment in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She identifies as an interdisciplinary public health prevention scientist interested in bullying, discrimination, youth health disparities, food security, school climate and school health, restorative practices, community schools and mixed methods community based participatory research. Broadly, her research agenda sits at the nexus of public health and education, focusing on school and state level policies and programs that seek to support positive youth development, school climate and educational and healthy equity<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research Interests<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Deb Hinchey is the director of the undergraduate public health program at UVM. She holds an MPH in public health practice from the University of Washington and a Doctorate in Education from UVM. Deb is passionate about health equity and addressing the root causes of health outcomes, specifically those that negatively and disproportionately impact marginalized populations. Her research focuses on critically exploring the dominant narratives around health, and how these narratives are shaped (and can be challenged) through middle and high school health curriculum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Janet is a Registered Dietitian who also has her Masters in Teaching. She is joining the team as a UVM Food Systems PhD Student. Janet has spent many years teaching nutrition at an undergraduate level and has observed how overwhelming nutrition education can be for students. She is interested in exploring HOW nutrition knowledge is disseminated to students. Through the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, Janet hopes to understand how students perceive the various frameworks associated with nutrition pedagogy. She\u2019s excited to be a part of this project at UVM and is looking forward to the next few years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Janet is originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada, and now calls Vermont home along with her husband Ed and their two mini schnauzers Keebler and Tetley (yup, they\u2019re named after cookies and tea). When not at school, Janet loves to be outside hiking, biking, skiing and trying to beat her husband on the golf course. She also loves to travel, knit and cozy up with a good mystery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Kelsey identifies as an eating disorder prevention and treatment researcher. She is trained in the fields of public health, nutrition, adolescent medicine and eating disorders.  Her clinical work, teaching, and research reflect the intersection of these fields. Her research interests focus on stigma and health. Specifically, her work so far has explored concepts of body diversity, weight stigma, and eating disorder literacy primarily through qualitative research methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jordan’s research interests lie at the intersection of developmental, social, and health psychology, as well as public health. She has primarily focused on the relationship between weight stigma and disordered eating behaviors and cognitions (e.g. purging and body dissatisfaction). She is interested in examining how we can target sources of food and weight stigma to help young people develop healthy relationships with food and positive body image, and subsequently improve health and wellbeing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hello, my name is Maren! I\u2019m a junior studying nutrition and food science with a concentration in dietetics. I\u2019m from Plymouth, Massachusetts. I love reading, crafting, yoga, and days at the beach! I wanted to work with the WIN team because I\u2019m passionate about the importance of weight inclusive health care, especially in the nutrition field. I also know the power health educators\u2019 have to shape students\u2019 perceptions and understandings of nutrition and other important topics. Building comprehensive nutrition curriculums that are centered on weight inclusivity and social determinants of health is vital to keep students\u2019 well-informed and I\u2019m so grateful to be involved in this process!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
