Welcome
Our Goal
The Teach for Justice Lab aims to promote social justice teaching and advocacy in the state of Vermont through curriculum development, support, advocacy, and scholarship. We are hosted in the UVM College of Education and Social Services and are made up of a collective of UVM students, faculty, and partners. Together we collaborate to support social justice initiatives in local K-12 schools and organizations that serve youth. Our lab engages in projects that are both initiated by UVM students or requested by community-based partners. With the goal of maximizing access and impact, all resulting curricula, resources, and reports are shared via this website.
Example Projects
- Curating resources to teach for justice in specific disciplines and grade levels
- Developing resources to support social justice teaching
- Investigating and advocating for socially just school policies
- Supporting the social justice initiatives of our community-based partners
- Visit our Lab Projects page to learn more about ongoing projects
Interested in Seeking Support from the Lab?
Our goal is to support the work of educators and community partners who are engaging in social justice teaching and advocacy within their circles of influence. We accept all requests for support and are eager to help in any way we can! Example requests include curriculum design support, project development, resource curation, and consultations to think through a justice-oriented initiative. If you have a request that you think the lab might be able to help you with, email us at T4JLab@uvm.edu.
Interested in Joining the Lab?
UVM students who enroll in the Teach for Justice Lab participate in an experiential independent study facilitated by UVM faculty in the Teach for Justice Lab. Activities include a mix of in-person meetings, collaborative projects, independent work, and occasional school partner visits.
The Teach for Justice Lab is open by instructor permission to UVM undergraduate students who have (1) thrived in EDML 222 Social Justice Education, and/or (2) demonstrated a commitment to social justice education in other ways. If you are a UVM student who is interested in joining the lab or wants to learn more, email us at T4JLab@uvm.edu.
