The Carse Property was agricultural land during the 19th and 20th centuries, but due to the wetland and steep topography agricultural development fell off as time went onĀ². Below is an image of a genealogy of the ownership of Carse throughout the Leonard Family. The wetlands are named after the late Henry H. Carse, who purchased the land in the 1970s, and donated to UVM for educational purposes in 2013. Carse farmed and served as a town moderator and school director in Hinesburg Vermont. The land was owned by Carse Land Company LLC until its donation to the university5. Since then, UVM has used the area for research and conservationĀ³.
