We seek broad institutional and disciplinary inclusion, drawing faculty and graduate students from across the humanities, arts, social sciences, and natural, physical, and medical sciences, and reflecting the range of institutions, from large research universities to small colleges, that comprise the New England Humanities Consortium.

Preference will be given to faculty applicants at any stage of their career and graduate students who:

  • Have engaged in demonstrable comics-based research activity, or
  • Have a scholarly and/or teaching background in comics, graphic narrative, or arts-based research practices, or
  • Have no prior direct experience with this theme but can articulate a clear and compelling interest for a hands-on exploration of intersections between research and comics.

Interested individuals should submit a single PDF to our application portal that includes:

  • A 1-page statement of interest, outlining your background and experience with comics, arts-based research, etc., and what you hope to gain by attending the symposium and retreat.
  • An abbreviated CV (3 pages max)

Applications are due by midnight on April 10, 2026. We will notify participants of their acceptance by April 15, 2026. All accepted participants will be asked to complete a questionnaire relevant to planning the symposium and for identifying specific priorities moving forward. In addition, we will provide detailed information on accommodations.
