Melody Brown Burkins

Associate Director for Programs at Dartmouth College’s Dickey Center for International Understanding

Prior to moving to Dartmouth College in 2014, Dr. Melody Brown Burkins served as Senior Director for Research and Strategic Initiatives and Interim Director of the Vermont Advanced Computing Center at the University of Vermont (UVM).

An earth systems scientist earning her degrees from Yale (BS) and Dartmouth (MS and PhD), Burkins’ career includes over 20 years of experience in place-based, collaborative research and teaching in the U.S. and abroad, coordinating bipartisan development of energy and natural resource policies in the U.S. Senate, and strategic management and communications across disciplines in higher education. Burkins was recently appointed Vice Chair for the National Academies’ U.S. National Committee for the International Union of Geological Sciences (USNC/IUGS), helping advance committee priorities around science diplomacy, critical minerals, and science education.
