Grapes and wine continue to be a growing crop in Vermont’s agriculture and food scene, and the UVM Fruit Program continues to support producers through research and outreach programs. Last summer, UVM Fruit Program Director Dr. Terence Bradshaw and UVM Plant Diagnostic Clinic Director Dr. Ann Hazelrigg published a comparative study of disease susceptibility of nine novel grape varieties grown at UVM’s Catamount Educational Farm. The annual 26th annual United Nations’ Conference of Parties (COP-26) in Glasgow, UK, has provided an opportunity for scholars, practitioners, activists, and policy-makers to gather together and catalyze new or dormant actions towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and University of Vermont researchers are there on the ground revolutionizing collaborations towards the sixth Sustainable Development Goal, among others, toward fresh water and sanitization.

Debra HelebaDeb is the new Extension Master Gardener coordinator and officially starts in this role on January 4, 2022. She has worked in UVM Extension agriculture for over 30 years starting with the Apple Team in Plant and Soil Sciences, the Center for Sustainable Agriculture, Women’s Ag Network, Land Link Vermont, the Northwest Crops and Soils Team and the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (SARE).
