U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has proclaimed October 1-7, 2023, as National 4-H Week! 4-H is the largest youth development organization in the United States; a network of 500,000 volunteers and 3,500 4-H professionals that provides caring and supportive mentoring to 6 million 4-H’ers. On Spear Street, just down the road from UVM’s athletic campus, is the Paul R. Miller Research and Educational Center. The Miller Barn is home to the Cooperative for Real Education in Agricultural Management, or CREAM program. This student-led dairy herd reaches beyond animal science and dairy management, placing emphasis on community development and gratitude practices. Anaka Aiyar, Assistant Professor, Community Development and Applied Economics

Anaka AiyarAnaka Aiyar is a health economist who is passionate about studying health and food security of people living in resource constrained contexts. Her research program adopts a transdisciplinary perspective in evaluating health interventions and offers actionable recommendations to enhance the efficacy of health interventions. Aiyar’s research explores questions related to access, affordability, availability, of community resources and the impacts of policies on these resources.
