The first record of a soft tick in Vermont was made in 2021 by Entomologist Cheryl Sullivan Ph.D., a scientist working at the Entomology Research Laboratory with Professors Bruce L. “This is literally the coolest thing I’ve ever heard.” That’s what a participant said at the January 27, 2022 VTeen Science Cafe hosted by UVM Extension 4-H, and taught by PSS Associate Professor Eric Bishop von Wettberg and PSS Post-Doctoral Associate Giovanna Sassi. They offered an online evening session called Culturing Cells for Healthier Soils, which provided participating teens with an introduction to the topic, and to the new AgroTek program overall. Lisa Flinn is an administrative assistant at the St. Johnsbury Extension office, and brings 20 years of experience in the administrative assistant field. Prior to joining Extension, Flinn held positions as an administrative assistant with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont for 20 years, Northern Power Systems for four years, Central Vermont Medical Center for five years and Littleton Regional Health Care for three years.
