The University of Vermont Extension Maple program and the Vermont Maple Sugar Makers’ Association (VMSMA) were co-hosts for the 2021 Vermont Maple Conference, held on December 8 to 11, 2021. The conference offered a mix of online and in-person learning with 15 informative sessions led by maple industry experts, maple producers and researchers including many from UVM.
UVM Extension presenters included Maple Specialist Mark Isselhardt, Extension Associate Professor Mark Cannella, Proctor Maple Research Center Director Tim Perkins, Research Associate Professor Abby van den Berg, and Vermont Tourism Research Center Director Lisa Chase.
Sessions were of interest not only to sugar makers but also to foresters who work with maple producers, and forest landowners looking to lease to a producer. Topics were tailored to new and small scale maple producers as well as established operations looking to adopt the latest research findings. A complete list of sessions and speakers can be found on the conference website at www.vermontmaple.org/maple-conferences.
