It is a busy time of year for grain growers here in the Northeast, including the farmers and researchers at Borderview Research Farm in Alburgh, Vermont. The University of Vermont Extension Northwest Crops and Soils team (NWCS) is conducting 10 winter grain field trials including studies focused on rye, wheat, spelt, and barley. UVM STEM Ambassadors hosted a hands-on STEM Showcase for 55-plus youths ages 8-14 on Saturday, November 4. This interactive event featured seven unique workshops including Galactic Garb: Dressing for the Stars, What floats your boat: The Amazing Boat Race, and Let’s Go for Gold: Robot Olympics, among others. Six new research projects are being announced for the Vermont Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) at the University of Vermont (UVM). They join 29 projects already in progress.
