Barituka BekeeBarituka Bekee joins UVM from the University of Missouri where he co-directed the Deaton Scholars Program, and obtained his PhD in agricultural and applied economics, as well as a certificate in society and sustainability. CALS Staff Honored with UVM Flood Response Volunteer Team

Many UVM faculty, staff, and students heeded the call for volunteers to help with emergency response and clean up from the devastating 2023 summer flooding in Vermont. A core team at UVM came together to work with the state’s joint information center that coordinated activities and volunteers to help fellow Vermonters in need. Bradshaw Receives Horticulture Farm Facilities Improvement Grant

The UVM Horticulture Research and Education Center (HREC) is a 97 acre property that was purchased by the University of Vermont (UVM) in the early 1950’s. Located in South Burlington, VT, it has been the primary field laboratory for College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) applied research and outreach in horticultural and agronomic crops. UVM Extension’s Chris Callahan, Andy Chamberlin, Hans Estrin and Vern Grubinger recently completed a three-year, multi-state project called Training and Technical Support to Help Small Vegetable Farms Meet the Cleaning and Sanitization Requirements of the Produce Safety Rule. Northwest Crops and Soils Team Reports on Winter Grain Field Trials

It is a busy time of year for grain growers here in the Northeast, including the farmers and researchers at Borderview Research Farm in Alburgh, Vermont. The University of Vermont Extension Northwest Crops and Soils team (NWCS) is conducting 10 winter grain field trials including studies focused on rye, wheat, spelt, and barley.
