About 20 percent of Vermont dairy farms raise pigs as well as dairy cows. Ninety percent of these farms raise pigs seasonally, and their health concerns may not be a priority for farmers. However, there is growing concern about the global spread of African swine fever (ASF), a deadly foreign animal disease (FAD) of pigs that was identified in two Caribbean countries during 2021. Perkins Presented With Inaugural Innovations Impact Award

UVM Department of Plant Biology Research Professor Tim Perkins has been awarded the inaugural UVM Innovations Impact Award. Perkins is also the director of the Proctor Maple Research Center (PMRC), where his research focuses on the physiological ecology of managed and unmanaged sugar maple forests. New Leek Moth Information Center Provides Pest Management Tactics

Not only is Tax Day right around the corner, mid-April also means the annual return of leek moths in our region. Leek moth is a pest of members of the allium family including onions, garlic, leeks, chives and shallots.
