The UVM Morgan Horse Farm’s Vermont Day is just around the corner! Join them on Saturday, August 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for their signature annual open house event. This wonderful event features demonstrations of the Morgan horse’s versatility, utility, and training progression. The farm is located at 74 Battell Drive in Weybridge, VT. During the summer of 2023, the Vermont Dairy Mapping Project launched with a team that visited several dairy farms to interview farmers about their disease-prevention biosecurity practices. The project team collected information that will be used to prepare a disease outbreak response plan for each farm, based on the national Secure Milk Supply Plan template. The team also “field tested” a new online mapping application that was developed to make the visual mapping part of a plan easier to create. Brady Miller, Erica Hoover, Abigail Brown, and Anna Riordan wrote about a day in their lives as students who participate in the Cooperative for Real Education in Agricultural Management or CREAM program, where students care for the dairy herd and perform all of the barn chores. Magnuson received a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Cornell University, with a distinction in research focusing on laying hen nutrition. This was followed by a Master of Science in Poultry Nutrition from the University of Arkansas, where he determined novel plasma biomarkers for phosphorus metabolism which translate across breeders to their broiler progeny.
