Two CALS Students Receive Robert L. Parsons Award
Laura Eckman, a second-year PhD student in the Department of Plant and Soil Science’s Entomology Research Laboratory, and Sydney Miller, a senior undergraduate student studying agroecology, have been awarded funding from the Robert L. Parsons Fund for Professional Development in Production Agriculture. The Parsons award is offered in honor and remembrance of “Bob” Parsons, a dear colleague of many in the UVM College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). Brian Vaughan is a 1999 UVM Plant and Soil Science graduate in urban forestry and landscape horticulture, with a minor in applied design.

UVM Horticulture Research and Education Center: A Year in Review
The Horticulture Research and Education Center (HREC) recently presented a year-end review highlighting the significant research, teaching and outreach activities that took place at the farm in 2022. The 97-acre property located just a few miles from campus in South Burlington serves as the primary field laboratory site for agronomic and horticultural crop research for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and is the home of the Catamount Educational Farm, which provides a platform for research and education, serves as a model for sustainable fruit and vegetable production, and generates food for the local community.

Join Friends of the Horticulture Farm at the Vermont Flower Show
Spring comes early to Vermont’s 100-acre wood on March 3, 4, and 5, for the 2023 Vermont Flower Show at the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction. The Friends of the Horticulture Farm (FHF) will be there, easing out of hibernation with blooming crabapples and forsythia, raffle prizes, and guest curator chats about growing grapes, lilacs and more.
