Joshua Faulkner was quoted in a Popular Resistance article about severe storm events and their increasing frequency in the Northeast. His Farming and Climate Change Program at the University of Vermont works with farmers to build climate resilience and adaptation strategies.

The Associated Press of Pakistan reported on speakers who highlighted the growing challenges to river deltas across the world, threatened by sea level rise, flooding, salt water intrusion, forced migration, water scarcity and water security. UVM CDAE Professor Asim Zia was a presenter during this session.

September is Hunger Action Month, a reminder that Vermonters are still struggling with food insecurity post-flooding, and demand is up after the storms this summer. UVM Clinical Associate Professor Farryl Bertmann was quoted in a WCAX article about her research with food insecurity.

Pumpkins are in peril this year after a wet summer of floods and very wet fields. UVM Extensions Heather Darby stated in a Burlington Free Press article that the risk of diseases and crop failures is quite high from the wet weather.

UVM Extension Assistant Professor Alexandra Kosiba was quoted for an article on how extreme weather impacts fall foliage, for an article in PHYS ORG, originally authored by Gund Institute’s Basil Waugh.

Entomologist Bryony Sands was quoted in an article on Atmos about dung beetles and how they decompose animal manure as an ecosystem service.

Plant and Soil Science Associate Professor Terry Bradshaw was quoted in a Vermont Public article about the May 2023 frost and resulting damage to apple orchards in Vermont.

A fact sheet prepared by UVM Extension’s Heather Darby was referenced in a Burlington Free Press article about the impacts of summer rain on Sam Mazza’s corn maze.

A UVM news article reported that six innovative flood research projects have been funded. UVM Extension’s Christopher Callahan and Vernon Grubinger, and CDAE’s Kelly Hamshaw and Daniel Baker received rapid flood research grant.

Morning Ag Clips announced that the UVM Extension Farm Viability and Forest Business programs are currently accepting registrations from Vermont farm, forest and maple businesses for both short and longer-term business planning services.

Nutrition and Food Sciences Assistant Professor Trishnee Bhurosy was quoted in an Oakdale Leader article about tips for people who want to have a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle on a budget.

UVM Extension Professor Lisa Chase discussed economic and social trends for fall foliage tourism in 2023 for a Gund Institute press release.

An article in the Milton Independent highlighted Chittenden County 4-H club members who competed and showed during events at the Champlain Valley Fair in August, 2023. Many of the 4-H events, including the judging jamboree and poultry show, took place on 4-H Day, Aug. 27.

Extension Associate Professor Ann Hazelrigg wrote about early tree defoliation in apple and crabapple trees, and why it happens in a Rutland Herald article.

UVM Master Gardener Bonnie Kirn Donahue wrote in the VCNG about how to attract pollinators to gardens with native shrubs.
