UVM Professor of Public Policy and Computer Science Asim Zia has a mission to create global collaborations with countries to protect fresh water resources.

Prior to the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) during November 2022, Zia was invited to Cairo, Egypt, to join colleagues in announcing the “Early Warnings for All” initiative. With the backing of the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and many global working groups, the initiative is a five-year plan for protecting people worldwide, through early warning systems of major climate disasters.

Zia’s current research involves the development of models that will assess the impacts of climate change from weather events. The models can determine how these events will impact access to clean water resources.
