Students Quantify Recyclables and Food That Ends Up in the Trash

Students at the University of Vermont audit the contents of a trash can to quantify the amount of food waste and recyclables that are thrown in the regular trash.

During UVM’s Fall 2022 semester, Plant and Soil Science Professor Deb Neher taught PSS 154, Compost Ecology and Management. On September 12 and 14, Nehr’s students performed a waste audit at the Davis Center, an event organized by Corey Berman in the Office of Sustainability. Research Framework to Advance Understanding of Soil Microbiome
