Morgan Horse Farm Hosts Equine Health & Training Clinics

A group of UVM students is standing in a barn listening to Veterinarian Dr. Gill while she is holding the lead for a brown horse and talking about lameness in horses.

The Morgan Horse Farm (MHF) team worked closely with the equine faculty in UVM’s Animal and Veterinary Science Department, to facilitate a robust schedule of learning opportunities at the farm in Weybridge, VT during the fall of 2022. The Equine Training Techniques course, Equine Health Practicum, Equine Clinical Topics course, and the Intro to Animal Science courses all utilized the Morgan herd and facility resources.

Morgan Horse Farm Equine Manager Jamie Maguire and Adjunct Lecturer and Faculty Advisor Katie Ballard took two UVM Morgan geldings to campus, to demonstrate training approaches to the EQUUS students.

Additionally, three historic preservation graduate students in UVM’s College of Arts and Sciences have been working with MHF advisory board members Kathlyn Furr and Nancy Cutting, to digitize and accession MHF archives.
