Science Creates Real Understanding of Biosecurity (SCRUB) Agriculture Curriculum Published
A series of farm biosecurity learning modules were developed during a five-year livestock biosecurity grant project directed by UVM Animal and Veterinary Sciences Research Associate Professor Julie Smith.
Also part of the grant project and recently published, the SCRUB (Science Creates Real Understanding of Biosecurity) curriculum contains modules and activities that complement the biosecurity learning modules. The SCRUB curriculum links hands-on learning with science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. They incorporate science into fun activities to engage youth in grades 6 to 12 who have an existing interest in animal science. 4-H Bonanza Showcases Student Passion for All Things Bovine
Seventy-two 4-H members from across Vermont participated in the 4-H Bovine Bonanza, held at the University of Vermont’s Paul R. Miller Research & Education Center on November 5, 2022. The instructors for the event were the Cooperative for Real Education in Agriculture Management (CREAM) students. With the farm hosting the event, it brings 4-H members to UVM and it gives the CREAM students a chance to showcase their passion and knowledge. Vermont 4-H Represents at the Big E
Vermont 4-H members represented their state at the 2022 Big E event, held at the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, MA. They participated in the event in several ways, including representing the dairy and horse projects, and at the New England Center where they performed stage presentations and demonstrations for the public. Families Enjoy the Forest, Learn New Skills During Outdoor Family Weekend
A great weekend was had by all who attended the 24th annual Outdoor Family Weekend (OFW) event hosted by UVM Extension’s 4-H program, in partnership with the Vermont Departments of Fish and Wildlife (VFW), and Forests, Parks, and Recreation (FPR). This family-friendly event is designed to cultivate connections with the outdoors through camping and the acquisition of new skills.
